A day of inspiration at Derome - Making in Wood on a study visit
Recently, we in the network Tillverka i Trä had the opportunity to visit Derome and one of their house factories outside Kungsbacka - and what a day it was! With over 20 committed participants, we were offered a unique insight into everything from innovative house manufacturing to future sustainability and exciting new technology.
We started the day with an inspiring conversation with Anders Carlsson, Sustainability Manager at Derome. He talked about their work to put sustainability in focus, both in research and in practice, he showed examples of projects where sustainable solutions and innovation went hand in hand.
We were then given a tour of the factory, where we saw their impressive production of prefabricated house modules. It was exciting to see how they build these modules with precision and efficiency that can be assembled into complete houses - like a lego! If you are curious about how it works, you can read more here.
One of the highlights of the day was when Nicole Tobiskov, researcher at University West, talked about her work together with Johan Björklund, Technology Developer at Derome. She is researching how augmented reality (AR) technology can be used to improve roof truss production. In her presentation, she showed examples of how the technology is being tested on site, which gave an exciting insight into the potential. Visiting the factory and seeing the large, heavy trusses in real life made it clear how AR technology could facilitate certain aspects of the work.
Positive reflections and new opportunities
Participants were very positive about the day and highlighted several highlights. Many appreciated the opportunity to network and make new contacts, which is one of the strengths of the network. The visit to the first factory was very impressive, and Derome's work in dealing with different market segments in a flexible way was highlighted as particularly inspiring.
It is precisely the combination of knowledge exchange, insights and the opportunity to make new contacts that makes Manufacturing in Wood a valuable context for the wood industry.
A big thank you to Derome for your generous welcome and for sharing your work and expertise. We look forward to the next network meeting!
Do not hesitate to contact us!
We are always open to new partnerships and contacts.
