Smart Transition project drives change in the construction industry

The construction industry is facing major challenges in increasing efficiency, reducing its carbon footprint and adapting to the opportunities of digitalization. The Smart Transition project at Innovatum Science Park is part of the solution and helps to drive the development towards a more sustainable and smart construction sector.

One of the initiatives within the project is to evaluate and implement the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology to clarify when and how construction companies benefit from using digital tools in their processes. By visualizing and analyzing construction projects in a digital environment, companies can optimize resource use, reduce material waste and improve workflows.

Lina Gharaibeh explores profitability in BIM

Lina Gharaibeh, researcher at University West, has developed a tool that shows when it is profitable for large construction projects to use the BIM method. She explains:

- By using our tool, construction companies can get a clear picture of when it is economically beneficial to implement BIM, allowing them to make more informed decisions and optimize their processes.

Lina's research has demonstrated the economic and environmental benefits of using BIM, enabling companies to both increase efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint. The tool contributes to a more sustainable transition in the construction industry.
Linda Nordén, project manager at Innovatum Science Park, believes that it is important to support this type of research.

Collaboration for a sustainable future

- Supporting research like Lina's is central to our vision of driving sustainable development in the construction industry. By providing concrete tools to measure and optimize the use of BIM in large construction projects, companies are given the right conditions to make more sustainable choices. This is not only important to streamline work processes, but also to reduce the industry's carbon footprint and promote long-term sustainability.

Smart Transition creates a collaboration that enables knowledge exchange and development of tools. These in turn can make a real difference in the construction sector's work for a more efficient and sustainable future
