Interesting discussions on the future of sustainable wood construction
The "Manufacturing in Wood " network aims to strengthen knowledge and collaboration within the Swedish wood construction industry. A recent study visit was organized to the company Inwoco in Bengtsfors—a visit that provided participants with an example of innovative and sustainable solutions for the future of wood construction.
Collaboration for Development – About the “Tillverka i trä” Network
“Tillverka i trä”is a network for wood-based businesses, primarily in Västra Götaland, with the goal of promoting sustainable wood construction in various ways.
By bringing together companies and leveraging projects through Innovatum Science Park to scale up activities within the network—for example, by connecting the wood industry with researchers and other key stakeholders—a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and development is created. The network focuses specifically on industrialized wood construction, automation, and digitalization to strengthen competitiveness and reduce climate impact.
During field trips—such as the one to Inwoco—theory can meet practice, and interesting discussions and new collaborations can emerge.
Inwoco – Innovative Wooden Building Envelopes

Inwoco is a Swedish company that develops and manufactures industrial timber framing systems and building envelopes. At the heart of its offering is a patented production solution for prefabricated exterior walls that are delivered ready for installation directly on the construction site.
The system is based on a hybrid of traditional stud walls and CLT, offering high load-bearing capacity, flexibility, and energy efficiency. The walls are factory-manufactured with a high degree of prefabrication—including a waterproof membrane, air gap, and utility space—enabling quick and efficient installation.
A globally unique solution focused on sustainability
What makes Inwoco’s solution particularly interesting from an international perspective is the combination of several features in a single system:
- Patented production technology that enables standardized and efficient manufacturing.
- High load capacity and flexibility, making the systems suitable for use in a wide variety of building types.
- Low-energy performance with excellent U-values, resulting in reduced energy consumption.
- Circular design, in which the modules are designed for disassembly and reuse.
- Shorter construction time, thanks to prefabrication and efficient logistics.
In addition, the system is made largely of wood—a renewable material that sequesters carbon dioxide—which further helps reduce its environmental impact.
“It’s important to come together across industry lines”
For Inwoco, collaboration is a key part of driving development forward. Being part of networks such as Tillverka i trä creates opportunities for knowledge sharing and innovation.
“Being part of Tillverka i trä gives us the opportunity to connect with other players across the entire value chain—from research to production and construction. This fosters valuable partnerships and accelerates innovation. Study visits like this are also an important way to share knowledge and demonstrate how we can contribute to more sustainable construction,” says Lars Atterfors of Inwoco.
