Smart transition for circular sustainability - new solutions for tomorrow's manufacturing
In the new Smart Transition project, of which Tillverka i Trä is a part, run by Innovatum Science Park, we will strengthen the sustainable competitiveness of manufacturing companies. The project's goal is to increase companies' ability to innovate. Mainly through resource-efficient circular solutions.
Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) find it difficult to absorb the advances generated by research and turn them into profitable business activities. We see that the interface between research and industry needs to be improved. We therefore link arms with University West as we see that close collaboration between academia and industry is a way to develop cooperation.
Manufacturing industry in dire need of circular solutions
One of the project's focus areas within the manufacturing industry is the construction industry in Västra Götaland. Due to the construction industry being a large consumer of different types of materials, they also generate large amounts of waste. Here, there is a great need to help the industry work towards a transition to circular material flows and business models.
We want businesses to be ready for the future. With new rules and requirements coming into force all the time, it is important to be prepared to be competitive. The project will be a catalyst to get as many companies as possible to switch to more sustainable solutions. Through increased circularity, digitization and new innovations, we believe that the project can provide companies in the manufacturing industry with a great business benefit and help in their transition to a more sustainable society.

Smart Transition works across a wide range of industry sectors
The project will carry out several activities to commercialize new knowledge through workshops, seminars and focus groups involving the main project stakeholders. Through action research and industrial case studies, in several different industrial sectors, the project aims to promote technology transfer and collaboration between business and research.
This is to increase productivity, the use of digital solutions and to drive the green transition. One example is the network Tillverka i Trä which will deliver some of the Smart Transition activities and continue to explore circular solutions in the wood construction sector.
The project aims to increase companies' knowledge of the circular economy and to get them to look beyond their own borders to discover new sustainable opportunities for the future. In the long term, the project will strengthen the ability of companies to commercialize new knowledge to be winners in the green transition.
